"We are one global family
All colors, All races
One world united.
We dance for peace and the healing of our planet Earth
Peace for all nations.
Peace for our communities.
And peace within ourselves.
As we join all dance floors across the world,
let us connect heart to heart.
Through our diversity we recognize Unity.
Through our compassion we recognize Peace.
Our love is the power to transform our world
Let us send it out
NOW..."

The highlight of the Earthdance International event is a synchronized dance floor link-up, when the specially created song, "The Prayer for Peace" is played at every event across the world at exactly the same time.  Morning in Australia, sunrise over the Himalayas, midnight in London, afternoon in California - the universal prayer is a powerful moment that unifies our intention for a peaceful world.

Feminism in the Islamic World

Presented by:
Amina Christi

Amina ChristiCome join Amina Christi as she shares her first hand experience of living in a Muslim world. Initiated as the first woman tabla disciple of the Qawwali genre, her story reveals the present day Feminism of Islam. Learn the history and power of Islamic women dating back to the time of Muhammad and how the respect of the feminine has changed since those early days. She will share her experience about the evolution and deep call to restore the balance of the feminine in Islamic culture through her example of being the only woman with permission in history to perform the sacred Qawwali music in Pakistan, India and America. Amina will also teach the language of the tabla and how to formulate your own rhythm cycles. Amina Christi is the first woman to be allowed to perform at the largest Qawwali gatherings in the world, where women have been forbidden for over 1,000 years. Being the first foreigner and female disciple initiated formally under the legendary Ustad Hajji Dildar Hussein Khan, (tabla nawaz for Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan) Amina has been supported by the cultural love of Qawwali to share the message of Islam through this ancient Sufi music.

"Nature Dance” Dance Ritual Workshop: (Part One)

Presented by:
Kimberly Gladysz

Kimberly Gladysz This is a time to connect with ourselves and nature through rhythmic dance. Many traditional steps from Tahitian Dance and West African Dance will be introduced and weaved together in a unique way. We will have a chance to move with the elements earth, air, fire and water through creative body awareness/ imagery and create an original dance offering. The emphasis is in creating a lighthearted dance experience for all! Kimberly Gladysz has been evolving as a dancer since her childhood. As a practitioner of ashtanga yoga and a dance therapist (M.A. of Naropa University) she weaves healing, dance, and indigenous earth wisdom. Seventeen years ago, Kimberly studied West African dance and traveled to Conakry, Guinee to study kora and dance. She created a multi-arts-in education program, DanceAfricaLive, which educates public elementary school students about West African culture. Most recently, she has been living in Kauai and studying Tahitian dance and firedancing while teaching second grade. Her passion is weaving the rhythmic movements from various cultures in a uniquely improvised style. She feels gratitude for the many kindred spirits who have inspired her path.

"Sacred Life/Sacred Death" – Returning to the Arms of the Ancient Mother

Presented by:
Lesline Della Madre

Lesline Della MadreLife and death are not opposites. Death is integral to the whole/holiness of the sacred web of all that is. In this experiential workshop we will explore a way of viewing death that actually comes from the realm of our pre-patriarchal ancestors. Very little is known or taught about how our early ancestors lived. This workshop will explore our ancestral knowledge and will bring forward a much needed shamanic integration about life and death for body mind and spirit. We will also learn what it means to “midwife” death in our current time and how to transform fear about death into pure love.

About Lesline Della Madre: Leslene della-Madre has been a student of shamanism for 35 years and a student of Goddess spirituality for 15. She has a background in spiritual midwifery, community living, foster parenting, and psychology from UC Berkeley. Blending her work with crosscultural spiritual traditions (including Wicca, Zen, Buddhism and Native American) and her studies with various teachers of shamanism, Leslene provides a rich nurturing environment for healing. She has coined the word “Shemama”– a midwife of the spirit – to describe herself in her healing work. Leslene is founder of “Winged Women Return”, a center for empowerment through shamanism and shamanic healing in Sebastopol, California. She maintains a private practice as a shamanic practitioner in Sonoma County.

Into the Light of 2012

Presented by:
Asha Deliverence

Asha DeliverenceThe Mayans calculated that at this time we are beginning a new Solar cycle as we move from the 5th sun into the 6th sun. What this means is that we are crossing the Event Horizon of Hunab Ku, the Great Central Sun of our galaxy. We have now entered the Horizon of the Great Central Sun and will be in the middle of it by 2012. The changes we are currently experiencing in both the earth and our consciousness are from the light frequency of the Great Central Sun as it transmits thru the portal of our Sun. This light illuminates human consciousness and offering us the opportunity to create a world of beauty, joy and peace through this activation. This workshop will focus on the current and future shifts in our evolution, weaving in foundations of the new and ancient sciences with a focus on solar cycles, sungazing, the teachings of Mayan on the physics of creation, sacred geometry and sacred architecture.

Crossing the Event Horizon – The Grand Unification Theory of Nassim Haramein

Presented by:
Jamie Janover

Jamie JanoverLearn about Nassim Haramein’s lifelong journey into the geometry of spacetime, which has lead to a coherent understanding of the fundamental structure of the universe and our existence in it. In this presentation, Jamie Janover will take you on a journey through humanity’s evolution, exposing the changes necessary to produce a Unified Physics; a unification of not only the four forces of nature, but also evolution and the occurrence of consciousness. Haramein's theory demonstrates as well a parallel between ancient codes in documents and monuments. This all-encompassing theory may prove to be one of the most important discoveries of our time.

GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS

* Please don't treat Kidlandia as a day care center. We encourage all parents to participate in the activities.

* Children can easily get lost. Please locate a good rendezvous point in the festival and let your child know where it is, in case they get lost. (The security booth is a great place).

* We will be placing wristbands with the names of parents on all young children. Please make sure you take your child to the box office or security booth for a band.

* Please be aware that the sound system on the Main Stage can be very loud and can hurt young children's ears. This is especially relevent for babies, who have fragile skulls that sound can penetrate. Earplugs are not sufficient protection.

* Don't forget those hats and sunscreen, especially for babies.

Paintings For Peace
Since 2002, Earthdance has been recreating an innovative media concept where live art meets live music.  During every musical performance on the main stage, artists capture the energy by creating spontaneous paintings alongside the bands.  These paintings are exhibited in a special gallery on site and will be sold to the public via a silent auction with 50% of the proceeds being donated to the Earthdance Foundation.
Nikki Anderson
Nikki Anderson is a 28 year-old artist from Santa Cruz, CA. Passionate about her art she also teaches art to youth at alternative education schools, juvenile hall, group homes, and at a community center in downtown Santa Cruz. She has been oil painting since the age of eight and continues to explore and express through painting, drawing and new mediums like jewelry, ceramics and photography. Nikki has a BA. in Fine Arts from UCSC with a focus in painting and drawing.
Matt Jones

Fishing, waves, love and of course good music have always been an energy that runs through my paintings. The most important ingredient in my art is getting out of the way of myself and channeling the universe through me, which is something I had to discover myself, I couldn't learn it in school. I consider myself a self taught artist with some inspiring teachers along the way. My stlye include everything from commissioned photo realism, portraits, landscapes trout art and my latest genre is Live Art in front of live music. I first participated in Paintings for Peace in 2004, at the Earthdance festival northern California.

Xavi Panneton
I feel Art has the power to heal. My intent is to create harmonious, colorful flowing forms and spaces that all interact with each other through a geometric language of creation formulas. These formulas are evident in cell structure, snow flakes, bubbles, honey combs, atoms, molecules, and beyond. Seeing large luminous paintings, depicting our source structural intention can help set us back into alignment. I see Art through the eyes that see the world around me. It is a world of unfathomable creation and magnitude. So, I see the creation of Art that attempts to reflect the true power and beauty of its own source. My ultimate goal is to create large scale works of art that blow open the new visionary horizons and remind people of how much beauty there is deep inside our battered hearts." Xavi creates in San Francisco, CA
Luke Brown

Luke Brown is an intrepid explorer, part of a new generation of visionaries recontructing the templates of culture as we know it. His art speaks of the spiritual mysteries in the human imagination. Mystical experiences, dreams, medicine journeys, and channelled lucid dialogues with the source of creativity itself, seem to guide and be guided by the colourful symmetries and living surfaces of his art. Much of his work emerges from a graceful synthesis of digital and painting mediums. Developing his work through mix and remix technologies, Luke is constantly redefining his style as a spiritual medium for growth. He is intent on mapping his hyperspatial experiences with utmost accuracy, with whichever medium seems best suited, as a form of multidimensional cartography.

His art has been shown internationally with such visionary heavyweights such as Alex Grey, HR Giger, Robert Venosa and Ernst Fuchs. He is currently a resident of the lush Elfinstone rainforest in BC Canada, one of an infinite number of parallel universes in which he resides within simultaneously.

Carey Thompson
Carey much of his inspiration exploring countless natural power spots and Mesoamerican sacred sites where he developed a keen interest in ancient cultures and their expression through the arts and cosmology. He currently resides in San Francisco, California where he now focuses on his artistic endeavors. Carey describes his work as holomorphic transmission vision crystals. The imagery channels through, sourced from the universal matrix, and crystallizes into form onto templates based on sacred geometry and other patterns of nature. Beginning usually with only a seed of intention, the color and form evolve unconsciously to create the finished art. Revealing the interconnectedness of all things is the primary intention of Carey's artwork.
David Heskin

Through endless vision questing and a transfixation on multidimensionality, combining symbolic imagery with deep memory and aligning with the Alloneness of our Sacred Source.. David represents this altarworldly journey Through a lens which acknowledges simultaneously infinite largeness and infinite smallness His paintings always illuminate deeper synchronicity than premeditation would allow for, achieved by stepping out of the way and into the Way, becoming a channel for Pure Creativity to pour forth

Roman Villagrana

Roman Villagrana creates art as a campaign to inspire visionary community, setting out to influence others to create by portraying a universal and harmonic culture he calls "Tribe13" is his mission. Believing in the representation of myth creating reality powered by faith is his message. Art to him is a reflection of life and it's infinite potential. Roman has help bring forth Tribe13 and the Interdimensional Art Movement as platforms for visionary community building and harmonic culture manifesting and hosts the annual Interdimensional Art Show in Seattle showcasing leading visionary art, music and fashion from around the world. You can see Roman at art shows or live performance painting at conscious events throughout the west coast and abroad including Canada and England. Check out www.artbyroman.com for schedules and booking.

Tom Griffin

Tom has enjoyed art in one form or another for most of his life. His paintings have a dream like quality to them much like the childhood he remembers. Some of his paintings are as simple as a flower with a butterfly and others are more complex with deeper spiritual feeling and meaning.

What excites Tom most about creating art is the knowing that every brush stroke has the potential for something amazing. This is also the manner in which he chooses to live his life. Tom hopes that his work can bring inspiration to the ones that view it so they can take that and turn it into something for themselves. Tom currently lives amongst the trees on beautiful Whidbey Island with his wife and son where he can still be caught from time to time staring at those big wonderful bumblebees.

Carmel Reyes

Carmel Reyes have been living, loving, painting, and playing in Humboldt County since 1996. My art is highly influenced by the plant, animal, and elemental enregies of Northern California. My art also draws much of it's energy from the local music and dance culture.

Astrological Forecast
2008 Astrology Report for Earthdance

Earthdance 2008 starts with the rare alignment of Mercury, Venus and Mars in Libra. The last time this occurred was Jan. 2nd 1994 and the next time will be May 21st 2011.

This fusion of communication/ideas, beauty/sharing and desire/action, reflects the energy of "excitement" embodied with the awareness of "relating". This energy builds all 3 days as this creative triple fusion moves closer to a perfect trine with Neptune, the planet of music and art. This energy is especially felt by artists and musicians who are sure give some of their most inspired performances. It will create a collective desire to desolve the borders of separation and move into oneness.

The Sun will be opposed to Uranus, creating an electricly charged atmosphere supporting groups who are brought together for a common cause. This is also an energy that supports the "lightning strike" forces of attraction between the sexes and the spontaneous awareness of "cosmic" or fated moments. The rare Jupiter trine Saturn is almost perfect as well. This creates an expansive groundedness that supports the sharing of purpose and commitment. This major harmony serves greater understanding of the "bigger picture" and your place & purpose in it.

The Moon starts out on Friday in Aquarius aligned with Neptune, and then trines the Mercury/Venus,/Mars fusion to create a collective mood of inspiration, communing with nature and an overall feeling of truth and oneness. On Saturday the Moon is in Pisces sextiling Jupiter, which communicates expansion and the full expression of feelings. The Full Moon on Sunday aligns with the excitement of Uranus to create a cresendo of creative, collective tribal sharing.

Astrologically, this has to be THE most creative and exciting weekend of 2008, period.
