WHAT IS EARTHDANCE?

The Earthdance event in Laytonville is one of over 300 global events celebrating peace on September 18th, 2010.

To make this year a "grand farewell festival" to remember, we will be bringing back many of our favourite artists who have played over the past years. Please stay tuned for details.

EarthdanceEarthdance, the Global Dance Festival for Peace has grown to become the world's largest simultaneous music and dance event. Founded in 1997, with 22 cities and 18 countries participating, Earthdance events have occurred in over 350 cities in over 50 countries. , with locations ranging from the club-lands of New York to the rainforests of Brazil. Every year, in alignment with the International Day of Peace, over 200,000 people unite in dance with hundreds of thousands more joining online in support of global peace and humanitarian aims.

The defining moment of each Earthdance event is a synchronized link-up, (4pm Pacific Standard Time) when every event around the world plays a specially produced song called "The Prayer for Peace" at exactly the same time.

Earthdance has been described by the music industry as the "Dance Aid" for the new millennium. The aim of the event is to bring together global communities to create a synchronized global festival and dance event to help fund humanitarian causes and develop an environment of peace throughout the global community.

Please visit the Earthdance International Website at: http://www.earthdance.org to see what cities are participating in 2008, to find out which charities are being supported, and to find out more about the Global Webcast.

SHERIFF'S WELCOME (back to top)

WELCOME EARTHDANCERS!
FROM THE MENDOCINCO COUNTY SHERIFF.

The Earth Dance staff and the Mendocino County Sheriff are working very hard to provide you with the most enjoyable gathering possible this year.  Please help us by reading the following these simple requests.  This information is provided regarding local codes and areas of concern for all of Mendocino County.

Currently the fire danger in Mendocino County is at an all time high  Due to high fire danger, no pen flames of any kind are allowed.

Please find appropriate camping areas or have permission to camp on private property If you are camping within Mendocino County, will need to camp within designated camping areas or on properties which you’ve been given permission to camp upon.  Currently Mendocino County has a NO CAMPING ORDINANCE which can result in your being issued a citation or you may even be subject to arrest.

Trespassing on school grounds and recreation areas will not be tolerated under any circumstances The areas in and around the town of Laytonville which have schools and recreation areas will be patrolled by Earthdance staff as well as our Deputy Sheriff's.  Please show respect to our  parks, schools and staff working in these areas. The school grounds have been posted with informational signs which will warn against trespass.  Trespassing on private lands  may subject you to arrest. Please respect the rights of property owners. Do not climb fences or trespass on private property.

Please be careful not to block access to merchants, stores, or sidewalks  The Local Merchants are happy to have your business. However, they will not be happy with persons loitering, littering or who are intoxicated in a public place. The crime of shoplifting is taken seriously and shoplifters will be subject to arrest.

Persons traveling with pets should have the appropriate documentation of licensing and vaccinations  Persons with dogs will need to keep them on leashes while walking or resting within the public areas of the county.  Remember, you my know your dog is friendly, however other people who have never met you, don't know this.  Strangers are often easily frightened by animals which they do not know.

If you have a problem or a question, please contact event staff or a Sheriff’s Deputy Please try to remember the staff and the deputies are here to help everyone in our community, not just the event participants.

   - To report an emergency call 9-1-1.

   - To contact the Sheriff’s non-emergency line, please dial 707-463-4086.

Sincerely,
Thomas Allman Mendocino County Sheriff.
