NEKO CASE

Neko Case is a major poet by any standard, a songwriter less interested perhaps in traditional narrative form than in distilling a pure moment of time. A teenage punk-rocker turned alt-country chanteuse, she has always hinted at a uniquely skewed gyroscope at the center of her music. Her songs are at once playful and heartfelt, artsy yet unpretentious, and capable of shelving offbeat imagery inside of classic compositional structures. Her music is further fueled by her refusal to limit her work along generic boundaries. Musical styles, influences and sonic signatures from dozens of musical traditions thread through her songs and combine to create a sound at once foreign and familiar. She's an artist whose songs are so textured in their presentation that the subtleties filter into the subconscious while the overall effect astonishes. She is also a member of the Canadian indie supergroup, the New Pornographers.
