Sean Hayes - Sunday Sept. 25th - 12.45-1.15pm

Sean Hayes’ old-time, folk roots still show through at times, but now they’re brushing up against a soul vibe that simmers slowly to a boil on his latest release, Run Wolves Run. Over the last decade, his six full-length albums reveal this evolution of sound. Poetic, sensual and surreal, the lyrics are equal part to the rhythm, beat and melody.

Born in New York City, and raised in North Carolina, Hayes began playing traditional American and Irish music with a band called the Boys of Bluehill. He traveled the south, from the Black Mountain Music festival (LEAF Festival) in the Blue Ridge Mountains down to Charleston, South Carolina and eventually found his way to San Francisco, where he has lived since 1992.

Hayes' song "Rattlesnake Charm" was re-mixed by DJ Mark Farina, and also appears on the Stéphane Pompougn compilation Hôtel Costes, Vol. 8. His song "3 A.M." is featured on the soundtrack for the television show Kyle XY, and his song "A Thousand Tiny Pieces", was covered by The Be Good Tanyas and the group Blame Sally, and has appeared on the television show Brothers & Sisters. The Ron Howard produced NBC show, Parenthood starring Peter Krause, used the song "Powerful Stuff" and the HBO show Bored to Death featured his music on its second episode as well as on the first season’s soundtrack. His song "Turnaroundturnmeon" is part of Big Change: songs for FINCA, an album curated by Natalie Portman to benefit the anti-poverty organization FINCA. Hayes was also featured singing the duet "Ballantines" with Aimee Mann, released on her album Smilers. In October 2010 "Powerful Stuff" was used, once again, in a commercial for the automaker Subaru.

Hayes' song "Rosebush Inside" was inspired by a man named Moreese Bickham, who survived close to forty years inside the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. His voice and spirit are expressed through the Sound Portraits story titled, "Tossing Away the Keys". In January 2009, Sean Hayes and Moreese Bickham were able to meet in person when Mr. Bickham attended a Sean Hayes live performance in San Francisco.

Hayes released an EP titled Honeybees Falling on December 8, 2009 and followed that with a full-length release titled Run Wolves Run in March 2010.  He is currently working on his seventh full length album.
